Andre Wright was a Sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department. He is the primary antagonist for Franklin's storyline in Season 3.
Biography[]
Before the Series[]
Before the series, he served in the Vietnam War. After returning from war, he worked at the Chrysler Plant until it shut down. His wife left him and he had a daughter to take care of as well as bills to pay. Andre wasn't always on the right side of the law, and stooped to stealing just to pay his bills and provide for his daughter, Melody. He changed his ways down the road and eventually became a police officer. He soon rose in the ranks and became a Sergeant for the LAPD.
During the Series[]
He was a decorated LAPD officer in the Compton community and a neighbor to the Saint's family. He always respected the Saint Family despite knowing about Alton Williams and his ties to the Black Panthers, but his opinion about Franklin Saint changed as soon as he learned he was in the drug business and was the reason crack hit the streets of Los Angeles. Knowing Franklin's connection to Melody, he forbade his daughter from seeing him, especially with the damage his business is causing South Central. He later on arrested Franklin for the murder of Kevin Hamilton, which was later overturned due to Lorena recanting her statement at Teddy's behest. In Season 3, he made his crusade against Franklin very personal as he led a major crackdown throughout South Central and the Projects, leading to several arrests and the discovery of one of the cook houses. In the aftermath, Louie hired her sister, Sheila, to seduce him, then steal his gun and badge. Andre was then confronted by Internal Affairs over the incident, and suspended from the force. To make matters worse, Melody received the ire of Shon-Shon who was pissed over the raids leading to her cousins arrest and her grandmothers screen door broken. On top of that, he discovered that Melody was skimming some of her Spellman fund to buy and smoke crack and when he took the money from her belongings, she started trading some of her valuables for some rocks. He was later murdered by Franklin with his own service weapon, who staged it to look like a suicide.
Legacy[]
Andre always put his duty first. Stopping the flow of drugs in South Central Los Angeles was his Number 1 priority, but as he was focused on bringing down the Family, he lost his attention on Melody who wound up on the rock. Despite being placed on suspension, Andre was determined to take down the crack game and made it clear to Franklin that he has no intention of leaving the streets of Compton at Franklin's mercy, prompting Franklin to kill him.
