Cash and Carry is the third episode of the the third season of Snowfall. It is the twenty-third episode overall.

Outline

Franklin puts his new business plan into motion, then takes a business trip with Avi. Teddy and Julia work hard to forge new alliances in Costa Rica. Gustavo struggles to learn how to work with his new Mexican partner.

Franklin
[]

Franklin is going over a map with territories marked for certain organizations they can trust with his crew leadership. Jerome then notes to Franklin some people he know may help. Leon shares his concern about how they are going to control the flow of product that far out. Franklin states that all they have to do is collect and deliver, let the buyers cook the rock and sell it. Leon then share another concern, about what happens if they cut into their territory. Franklin answers Leon and gives him his blessing to do what must be done. Renny approaches Franklin and alerts him of visitors. Franklin walks away and sees Avi accompanied by Yuda and Muir. He shows some appreciation to Jammin' Jerome's and tells Franklin they need to head to the bank. Franklin tells him it's after 3pm and the bank is closed. Avi then knows that they are heading to a bank not in Los Angeles, reminding Franklin this is what he wanted. He also pointed out that the people he will be dealing with need to trust Franklin, don't work know street corner, and he requires serious capitol to work with these people.


Teddy
[]

Teddy and Julia are in the jungles of Costa Rica's Cartago Province and they are crossing through a creek bed. Teddy stops for a moment to get his bearing right since he doesn't find the maps to be reliable. Julia then tells her ex husband not to get them lost as they continue the hike. Julia then speaks about Teddy's problem of paying more attention to detail as he misses the bigger picture. Teddy, of course, states he doesn't want to wind up getting them into a trap as they cross an old rope bridge.


Gustavo
[]

Gustavo and Mariela are riding through the Mexicali Desert on one of the Villanueva routes. Gustavo thinks they're lost, but Mariela assures him they are on the right track and won't be going through customs like idiots. She has Oso pull over and follow him towards some shrubs and bushes and has Oso pull on a rope. Gustavo realizes there's a false bush hiding an old route for them to use. They then continue down the route via truck and upon crossing a creek bed, they hear something fall over in the back of the truck. Gustavo and Mariela pull over to see what fell over and saw the one of the boxes opened with ears of corn and kilos fallen out. Mariela chastises Oso for not tying the boxes and Oso tells her it was her peasants who loaded the boxes, not him. Mariela, of course, refers to Gustavo as a peasant as he cleans up the mess.


Avi
[]

During the flight, Avi offers the pilot some champagne, but she refuses, reminding him they are soldiers, not rock stars or gunners. Avi then returns to his seat and toasts to Franklin for 'Breaking his cherry in international banking'. Franklin, of course, notes him for being in a better mood. Avi then explains that he was right about Franklin being a mensch as they continue their flight.


Teddy
[]

Teddy and Julia finally arrive at a Contra camp where they meet BobBob, the Contra leader, who assumed the U.S. Government was in need of their airstrip which their arrival. Julia lays down the situation happening in Nicaragua while Teddy observes the prisoners in wooden cages with stakes being placed around the cages. BobBob notices Teddy staring at the prisoners. He then explains they were tried for murder and will be set to the torch by sunset. BobBob then asks if there is a problem with that. Julia states no. BobBob then states they now know how they enact justice and has them follow him.


Manboy
[]

Leon and Fatback have arrived at one of Manboy's places, an old fast food joint converted into a cook house. Manboy asks Leon if he is doing all of the drops. Leon states he's the distribution guy and he'll be working with him. As Fatback is about to bring Manboy the rocks, Leon stops him and discovers Wanda blowing Bootsy. Leon then screams at her. She stops and says hi to him with her mind riddled from the crack. Bootsy then mocks Leon with a few random words regarding Wanda and another mans pipe, and Leon charges at Bootsy, leading to a brawl between them both. Manboy and Fatback then step between them and halt the fight. Leon then focuses his attention on Manboy, stating how they are working to make him rich and they have Wanda here giving them the recipe. He loses it with Manboy as well as Wanda, who once again, doesn't have a care in the world. There is no deal as Leon, who is pissed off to no avail, and Fatback leave with the merchandise. After they exit, Manboy snaps at Wanda after telling her never to show her face around when Leon was present. Wanda then claims she didn't get a warning, and Manboy made it known he said his name. Wanda claims she didn't hear him and walks off.


Franklin
[]

Franklin is now in Panama City, Panama with Avi, Yuda, and Muir as they arrive at a resort. While waiting at the clerks desk for his key, Franklin eyes a young woman tending to the roses. They reach their room and Avi advises Franklin to clean up and meet him at the bar for some food and drink. Franklin, however, insists he wants to see the Bank VP and take care of the business he originally flew to Panama for before getting a bite to eat. Avi makes it known that they will have an appointment with the VP on the next day. Franklin apparently had it in his head that the banks would always be open for people like them. Avi stated that something came up and he'll have the VP's secretary notify him. Franklin is adamantly anxious to fulfill his one goal in Panama and asks if there is another bank officer that could help them. Avi then assured Franklin that Mr. Castallan is the man for him as he leaves the room.


Gustavo
[]

It is sundown in the desert in California and Gustavo and Mariela are stranded in the middle of nowhere. Gustavo is checking the engine as Mariela is behind the wheel. He pointed out to Mariela that the battery cable got busted. Mariela asks if he can fix the cable and Oso states they will have to jumpstart the battery, which would mean someone would have to stop for them which is unlikely. Mariela then points out the road is at least 3 miles from their position. Gustavo states it would be nightfall soon and should get some sleep there for now.


Franklin
[]

Franklin is still in his hotel room and he approaches the phone, remembering some advice Avi gave him. He calls Avi and asks if he remembered what time they arrived. Avi then stated his money is safe, even though that wasn't Franklin's first question. There's a knock at the door and Franklin places the phone on hold to answer. It's Yuda with a box, letting Franklin know that Avi sent him to guard the room so he can head on down. Franklin asks what's in the box. Yuda then opens the box revealing a beach shirt and some sandals. Yuda then tells Franklin his money will be safe.


Teddy
[]

Back at the Contra camp, Teddy, Julia, and BobBob are enjoying a delicacy of pigs brains fresh from the skull, even though Teddy and Julia are getting used to it. Teddy then states how the people there call BobBob 'Dima'. BobBob states it translates to 'Crocodile'. Teddy then asks why he is called that. They then hear the screams of the criminals burning alive. BobBob then tells them he is a procurer, and that he gets what he hunts for. Julia, with curiosity, asks what BobBob is hunting. He tells Teddy and Julia he is looking for medicine, clothes, anything that will make their lives easier. He also makes it known that with their plane and refueling stations, they travel the Caribbean and get what they need moving contraband. BobBob states that he learned many things from the CIA. Julia then brings up BobBob's file and states it doesn't explain why he left the agency in the first place. BobBob notes he was a patriot in the beginning up to the point where he had innocent blood on his hands and then he was alone. Julia notes how they sacrificed everything to remain faithful to a cause and makes it clear they need their landing strip to provide weapons for the Contras resisting the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. She also notes they will need to expand airstrip to accommodate larger aircrafts. He then turns his attention to Teddy and asks him why he fights this war. Teddy then states it is to free the people of Nicaragua and stop the spread of communism. BobBob laughs and asks Teddy if he believes he can really hand someone their freedom like that.


Franklin
[]

A massive fiesta is underway in the hotel restaurant as a mariachi band is playing. Franklin walks in to see people dancing on the dance floor, especially Avi, who pulls him over to a table and speaks with some ladies about how he went from being some kid looking to make a few bucks to becoming a millionaire within a years time. He then notices the young woman who was working on the rose display earlier heading to the bar and excuses himself from the table then approaches her. He speaks to her, yet he is at a loss for words, until he brings up her working with the flowers. She then states she arranges flowers for 4 different hotels in Panama City. Franklin then offers her to join him at his table but she resists, stating she is not fond of his friends. Franklin then suggests finding another table and gifts her a tiny rose which she accepts.


Teddy
[]

It's the middle of the night in Costa Rica and Teddy is suggesting to BobBob that he and Julia should get some rest and talk more about their arrangement in the morning. BobBob then states that they were just getting started and requests the servants to bring them tea and robes. BobBob tells the ex-couple the tea brings out the inner man, but first the body must purge itself and the robes are so they don't soil their own clothes. Julia refuses, telling him they didn't come to Costa Rica to get high. BobBob states it is part of the ritual and every adult present must drink the tea to honor those who died. Teddy then asked if they honor criminals. BobBob states they honor life and makes it known if they want any sort of deal, they must honor the rituals. Now realizing they are at an impasse, Teddy and Julia agree to take the tea and drink it along with BobBob. The next morning, Teddy and Julia are in their robes and are nauseated from the ritual as they are vomiting and splashing themselves with water while BobBob is watching them from his home. All of a sudden, Julia stands up as if she sees or hears something. Now it appears the tea is kicking in.


Gustavo
[]

Morning has arrived in the desert and Oso awakens from his sleep. He jumps out of the back of the truck and approaches the cab to find Mariela not there. Gustavo then looks around the truck and calls out her name in the desert. With her gone, Oso is wondering where she went off to.


Franklin
[]

Franklin is out of bed with the florist sleeping in the bed. He picks up the phone to call Avi, asking when they are heading to the bank. Avi then tells him the secretary hasn't got a hold of him yet and it would probably be later in the day or the next day. Franklin is not satisfied and reminds Avi's this isn't a vacation for him. The call ends and anguish strikes Franklin. Ximena awakens and Franklin asks a favor from her.


Louie
[]

Louie is furious at Leon and Fatback after they refused to fulfill a deal with Manboy. Leon defends his decision claiming he doesn't deal with people like that and he was inches away from killing him. Louie then reminds Leon that this isn't about him. It's about the business and they can't deal with his nonsense. Leon gets offended as he and Fatback leave. Louie then grabs the phone and calls Peaches.


Teddy
[]

In the jungles of Costa Rica, the tea has fully kicked in and Teddy and Julia are experiencing blurry visions as they approach a creek bed. Teddy steps in the creek then Julia is next and in their drugged up state, they begin making out in the middle of the creek bed.


Franklin
[]

Franklin and Ximena arrive down the elevator on the 1st floor of the hotel with Franklin carrying his bags. They then exit the hotel.


Gustavo
[]

Gustavo is still stranded in the desert until he sees a border patrol vehicle pull up next to him. He sees a border patrol agent exiting with Mariela pointing a gun at him. Mariela then tells Gustavo to go ahead and fix the truck.


Louie
[]

Louie and Peaches arrive at Manboy's place of business and Manboy tells Louie how she is fine! Louie cuts to the chase stating she knows about the issue between him and Leon. Wanda then states it Leon who has the issues. Manboy then makes it clear that if they want to continue doing business with him, they are to get Leon in line. Upon knowing of Wanda's presence, Louie sees how Manboy managed to get a hold of the recipe and the routes. Louie then has Peaches give Manboy the kilos, but before he does, Peaches asks Manboy why he is called that. Manboy tells Peaches he was a man before he was a boy. Peaches drops the product in front of him and leaves the cook house with Louie. As they head to the parking lot, Wanda exits and asks Louie where Leon is and tells Louie to tell Leon she said 'Hey'! Louie then notes to her they should have killed her when they had the chance. Wanda then pointed out how Kevin gave the Villanueva's the recipe, then brings up Claudia's death to her. Louie snaps and engages her but Peaches holds her back as Wanda lights up a pipe. Louie has Peaches wait outside as she reenters the cook house. Louie then gives Manboy a chance for more product and to continue business with them, but only that they cut ties with Wanda. Manboy agrees and Louie takes off.


Avi
[]

Yuda alerts Avi of Franklin's arrival back to the hotel as Avi is shouting at Muir. As Franklin heads towards the elevator, Avi demands to know where he was, then sees to bag empty and asks where the money is. Franklin notes that Ximena knew someone at the Banco de Panama Internationale. Avi snapped at Franklin, demanding to know why he would do that. Franklin made it known he was in looking for a bank and now he has one. Avi is not happy, noting he had plans and arrangements. Franklin then asks Avi what is really going on with him. Avi is speechless for a moment but finally comes clean to Franklin about an official in the Israeli government blackmailing him and bleeding him dry, which is why he can't pay Teddy's gunrunners. Franklin asks what he is being blackmailed on. Avi doesn't answer, but makes it clear that if he can't pay the suppliers, Teddy will find another gunrunner and he'll be a dead man. Franklin then asks if he was gonna steal from him. Avi states he was gonna borrow the money to pay his gunrunners and pay him back with interest before he could notice any of the money missing. Franklin then makes it clear to Avi that if his people learned of what he tried to do, he would have no other choice but to kill him. Franklin then bluntly stated to Avi that if anyone of his own crewmembers ever pulled something like that on him, he would kill them. Avi then states he's already dead. Franklin then decided to help out Avi and asked for the bare minimum he would need. Avi tells him it would be $1.5 million but he may be able to get by with a million. Franklin agrees to a million, but that the going rate of 6% a week. Avi freaks out to the weekly demand and Franklin tells him that is his rate and asks him to take it or leave it. Avi states that he'll need 2 weeks. Franklin then agrees and tells him the money is upstairs in a second room. He hands him the room key holding the million he'll need plus another million to help him deposit and they head to the elevator.


Teddy
[]

Teddy and Julia are lying on the ground with BobBob standing over them seeing Teddy awake. BobBob asked about Teddy's dream. Teddy states there was a man chained to a sinking boat on a shark-infested shore. Then he threw him the key, but it slipped out of the man's hand and fell into the water. BobBob then tells Teddy he wants to show him something. BobBob shows Teddy the airstrip and states they will need a lot of medicine, M-16s, a Cessna 441 Conquest II plane, and $10,000 a month. Teddy, staring at the strip, states he'll have a construction crew on the ground in a week but will only work at night. BobBob then notes that Teddy and Julia want different things, that they're not in it for themselves and they more than patriotic for they are willing to die or face the worse for their cause. BobBob then notes that they should expect betrayal and insanity in the end. Teddy then asks what Julia believes and BobBob states she believes in a higher calling and she would never truly understand men like them.


Gustavo
[]

After getting the vehicle jumpstarted, Mariela then lets Gustavo know that the border patrol agent saw their faces and their truck and suggests Gustavo to off him. Oso walks to the agent sitting in his patrol vehicle and the agent tells Gustavo to just put it in his head. Gustavo then draws the gun and asks for the radio. The agent hands him the radio, but Gustavo rips out the radio then takes the keys from the vehicle and hops back in his truck with Mariela who is staring at Oso for letting the man live, even though now he is stuck.


Manboy
[]

Bootsy brings Wanda to Manboy after telling her she is out. Wanda is begging Manboy not to throw her to the curb, but Manboy makes his position with her clear that they are down with her. Wanda further begs, reminding them that she gave them the recipe and told them how the Family does business. Manboy then states she had nothing but a free ride and decided the crew didn't want her there no more. Bootsy then grabs Wanda by the back of the hair and drags her screaming to the front door. He tosses her out and Manboy exits with them. Wanda then attempts to get past Bootsy back inside, but Manboy then tells her to get off his property. Wanda then starts mocking both Manboy and Bootsy as she attempts to get back inside. Manboy then shoves Bootsy and grabs Wanda by the throat and pushes her into the chain link fence as he is choking her. Bootsy then tells Manboy there are witnesses watching him and attempts to pull him off, noting she's not worth it. Manboy then snapped at Bootsy and they both entered the cook house with Wanda on the ground gasping for air.


Franklin
[]

Franklin boards his plane with the pilot greeting him. He sits in his seat and the pilot asks about Avi. Franklin noted to her that he could find his own flight back. Before she returned to the cockpit, Franklin calls her back, picks up a check book, and tells her he has the money for the flight, but would like to write her a check. The pilot then hands Franklin a pen and he writes her a checks. He then hands her the check and the pen as she returns to the cockpit for takeoff. We do see the plane leaving the ground.


Gustavo
[]

Gustavo and Mariela finally arrive at their location with the truck and drugs. Mariela then asks who they are meeting, and Oso says it's Teddy. He knocks on the main door but hears one of the loading bay doors opening. They approach the door that is opening, and much to Gustavo's dismay, he sees Lorena in the warehouse. She then told Oso to relax stating she quit the agency and is working with Teddy. She then states she is their contact now. Lorena then turns around and walks into the warehouse, Gustavo then follows her, draws his gun, points it in Lorena's direction, and pulls the trigger.
