Summary[]
Alton[]
Cissy is outside on the porch smoking pot and Alton steps outside. Cissy sees him and puts out the pot. Alton tells her she doesn't have to put it out on his account and just wanted to check on her. He sits with her and Cissy tells him there is something he needs to know about Franklin.
Melody[]
Melody is in her room listening to her music, covered in injuries she received from Shon-Shon, and Andre, who was about to pass her bedroom, spots her and knocks on her door. She finally removes her headphones and Andre asks if she is doing better. He then asked how long will be sitting around and felling sorry for herself. Melody is silent on the subject. Andre has had enough as he grabbed Melody's briefcase, opens it up and tells her he is taking her to Spelman. Melody then tells her father she doesn't want people seeing her with the bruises on her face and is afraid she'll stick out like a hood rat. Andre then suggests they take a road trip and maybe she'll feel better, but she disagrees. Andre then asks why she won't talk about what happened to her and Melody tells him he'll make it worse. Andre then accuses her of blaming him for what happened to her and not being honest, and Melody scoffs at him for not being honest with her. Andre then gives her an ultimatum to either pack her backs and get ready to leave otherwise he will not pay her tuition for Spelman and she can call them to let them know she ain't coming. Melody then tells her father she'll take the second option. Andre is now disappointed as he barges out of her room and Melody lies back down on her bed.
Franklin[]
Franklin arrives at his mother's home after he received a page from his parents. Alton then asked his son how much he remembered about his cousin Jack. Franklin states that all he remembered about Jack was that he and Alton moved west together, joined the Black Panthers, and was killed by the police. Andre corrected his son, stating it was the FBI. Franklin also pointed out that Alton was barely around after that. Alton finally came clean about Jack's death, stating that Jack was an informant for the feds. Franklin is shocked to learn this, after being led to believe his second cousin was wronged. Alton told him about how he funneled information to them and after outliving his usefulness, they killed him. He then brings up the connection he had with Teddy. Franklin then stated that the FBI was out to destroy the movement and that Teddy needed him. Alton noted how he got him out of prison and asked what would happen if Franklin's no longer became of any use to Teddy. Franklin reminds his father that he has plenty of people trying to come at him and he'll just be another person to deal with. Alton then states to his son that gangsters can be seen from a mile away, but government suits will come at him when he least expects it and it won't just be him.
Gustavo[]
Gustavo is with Miguel in Tijuana to show him a house he can use for smuggling cocaine through. Gustavo checks out the interior of the place and tells Miguel to close the deal and offer cash payment. He then states they will have to completely renovate the house and find an engineer they can trust, which Miguel agrees to do. Oso then asked if there is a place on the U.S. side close to the border, and Miguel pointed out the best he can do is a small store in San Ysidro. Gustavo then tells him to get to it. Miguel then noted his tenure of working with the Villanueva's and stated that the best way to help them is to know what they want. Oso then asked Miguel if he liked golf, which Miguel answered yes to. Oso spoke about seeing the comedy golf film 'Caddyshack' and talked about the gopher in the movie. He then handed Miguel his money and asked if Lucia was in contact. Miguel told him no, and the fact that she left the way she did, it meant she didn't want to be found. Gustavo pats him on the arm and walks toward the exit.
Teddy[]
Teddy, Julia, and Rigo have arrived at a nightclub and Teddy is showing him his new spot. Rigo asked how they managed to get the place, and Julia asked how he gets what he wants with no hassle. Rigo tells them he would have forced the owner to sign over the club at gunpoint. There is a scene where Teddy and Julia threw a duffel bag full of cash in front of the former owner, Otto. He then pointed out to Rigo they overpaid in cash, which was about 700K and since Teddy proclaimed that he cares deeply in their personal connection and relationship, it will be on them. Rigo then asks if they can get Harrison Ford in the club, and Teddy tells him about a rumor that he liked Thursdays. Rigo then hugs Teddy and the cocaine drops are set to resume. Rigo then heads off to entertain a female guest while Julia snorts a line of coke and pulls her ex to the dance floor.
Andre[]
Andre and Nix are at the bar. Nix tells Andre that Franklin's not an idiot and knows how to cover his tracks. He states his driver's license and vehicle registration has his mother's address as the primary address. He then told Andre how he attempted to poke around on their real estate business but all their holdings are in some shell company outside the states. Andre is not too surprised and Nix suggested staking out his mother's place but then notes a white guy sitting in his car in a black neighborhood, he would stick out like a sore thumb. Andre agrees and tells Nix not to carry out that plan. Nix then asks how Andre is holding up.
Franklin[]
Franklin, Leon, Fatback, and Renny are riding down the street and Franklin and Leon are talking about Melody being attacked by Shon-Shon and how Eva was injured helping out Melody in the process. Franklin also points out how Andre has her confined to their home for the time. They pull up to the place and Renny asks how many would be inside the place. Franklin tells the guys there will be 3 guys and they will be strapped. Fatback then asks who they will be aiming at. Franklin then tells his boys to prepare to kill everyone if need be. They exit the vehicle and enter Avi's new place. Avi is ecstatic to see Franklin, noticing he has some of his boys with him and even offered his boys some Arnold Palmers. Franklin declines the offers and Avi talks about the Olympic games and watching a man on television running incredibly fast. Franklin then pointed out how it was his people that beat Avi's people in all types of sports, but tells him he's there for business. Avi notes how he does owe Franklin a great deal of money but it would take a few weeks he'll get him his money once the next shipment goes through and he gets his funds. Franklin reminded him that wasn't their deal. Avi then told Franklin of an expression of how they can't get blood from a stone. Franklin then draws a gun on Avi, stating he can get blood out of him, while his boys have Avi's boys at gunpoint. Franklin then lets Avi know he is not the same kid who arrived at his home looking for a few grams of coke. Avi then believed that Franklin forgot about what he did for him that day. Franklin tells him that ain't true and states he will give Avi an opportunity for grace. Franklin then lowers his weapon and sits at the table with Avi with his crew still has the Israeli's subdued. Franklin then brings up Teddy and requests to know if Avi can dig up anything about their government connect from who his handler is to his real name and gives Avi 48 hours. Avi agrees and notes to Franklin how he could have asked without drawing his gun. Franklin then walks out with his boys who still have their guns drawn.
Julia[]
Julia is on the dance floor still at the club having fun and Rigo pops up asking where Teddy is, getting way too close up to her. Julia suggested the bathroom. As they are dancing to the beat, Rigo asks Julia if she wants to join him for sex. Julia then tells Rigo the expression 'Don't shit where you eat!' Rigo is bummed out and states to Julia how she knows how to have a good time unlike Lorena. He then started suggested that if it made her feel better, Teddy could watch. Rigo then tells her to find him should she change her mind with Teddy overlooking them. Teddy then approaches Julia as they share a dance. Teddy then asks Julia if she wants to get out of there. Julia then points out that they own the place. They are then seen in the office screwing each other.
Franklin[]
Franklin arrives at Rafiki Books and is greeted by the co-owner, Mrs. Mosley who then asks of his parent well beings. She then talks of how she and her husband are glad to hear of Alton getting back to the man he once was and how they could use a few more like him. She returns back to work and Franklin begins skimming through the bookstore and Mrs. Mosley brings him a beverage and some cake to eat at the desk. Franklin then shows Mrs. Mosley the book 'The Spook Who Sat By the Door' which is a story of a man who was isolated, manipulated, and weaponized by the CIA. The store owner then presents Franklin files from the 1975 church hearings containing transcripts of investigations into the FBI and CIA. She even told Franklin of a rumor that they infiltrated black groups and spied on Dr. King himself. Mrs. Mosley then spoke of how Blacks organized and put a scare upon the U.S. government. Her husband, LJ, then asked his wife to tell Franklin the most important part of that, but then spoke of the 'Ice Gun' that could be used to kill them and they wouldn't even know. He spoke of the side effects on how it would leave a red mark like a bug bite and in a few days, the victim would fall dead of a heart attack. Mrs. Mosley then tells her husband to stop with his conspiracy theories and pulls him aside to get him some cake. Franklin then gets to work on the books while enjoying the cake Mrs. Mosley made for him.
Julia[]
Julia arrives at a park to meet DEA Agent Tony Marino. She introduces herself but Tony wants to see I.D. which Julia states they don't carry that type. Tony then assumed her to be anyone which meant he didn't have to talk to her. Julia asked if she could call him 'Tony' in which case he denied her that right, and only allow her to acknowledge him as Agent Marino. Julia then tells him she understand his frustration. Tony then snaps about Lorena going missing and presumed dead and how Julia, who he doesn't know, is looking into it. He tells Julia he is baffled, not frustrated. Julia then asked what made him think Lorena is dead. Tony sat down on the bench and told her that she missed her check-ins and her place was ransacked to make it look like she was running which he knew first hand she would never do. He also brought up how the last time they spoke she was exposed. Before Julia could finish a question, Tony stopped her and demanded to know who Teddy McDonald is. Julia denied knowing his name and asked why. Tony then told Julia that Lorena was working for him and would help her gather evidence against the Medellín Cartel. Julia then asked if he ever met Teddy or if Lorena had any information to share about him. Teddy claimed he never met him, but only learned that he was CIA and demanded to know what was going on. Julia then told Tony she was not at liberty to discuss that with him. Tony then made it clear that he had no support from the DEA and they believe Lorena went rogue. He tells Julia he believes Lorena to be dead and Teddy is very much involved. He also spoke of Teddy's alias 'Reed Thompson'. He then hands her a calling card and tells her to track him down so he can know what happened to Lorena. When Julia spoke, Tony then interrupted with 'Do Your Fucking Job' and told her to contact her once she does as he left.
Melody[]
Melody is on her sofa reading a magazine and Eva knocks on her window. Melody signals her to come in. Eva then enters through the front door carefully hoping not to alert Andre and Melody tells her he ain't home. Eva is relieved and famished as she heads to the kitchen asking for fries. Eva then pulls out a bottle of Crisco and activates an electric fryer while Melody walks in. Eva then tells Melody Leon asking her to sneak out the night prior and she turned him away, believe he wanted some. Melody then asked Eva about whether or not Shon-Shon's been causing her problems. Eva pulled a bag of fries from the fridge telling Melody not to worry about her. Melody stated she was just checking on her to see if she was good. Eva then joked on how she'll be better once she gets a hold of the clothes Melody can't take to Spelman. Melody then tells her she is having second thoughts about Spelman while Eva is cooking fries and even brought up her father threatening to not pay for her tuition even though she claimed it to be her college fund. Eva then expresses her envy for her claiming she wished she had a father that saved money for her college tuition. Melody is then beside herself believing Eva is ignoring her issues. Eva then clarifies how she wanted to trade places with her and wished she had what Melody has. She then tells Melody she would miss her since she wouldn't be around and tells her to go to school. Melody reluctantly agrees and asked Eva if she wanted to make some Kool-Aid. Eva then asked if it would be red or grape and they both got excited over red.
Teddy[]
Franklin and Teddy are now meeting in a parking garage where they are making the exchange. Franklin then offered Teddy to get some lunch with him and pointed out a diner where cops love to eat. Teddy finds it unwise to do such, especially with a trunk full of cocaine. Franklin tell him it cops will care more about what is on their plate than anything else and convinces Teddy it would be fine. They arrive at a diner and Franklin and Teddy speak about their fathers and whether or not America is the land of the free. Teddy concurs and makes it clear that America is the land of the free and there are people at that moment making sure it stays that way. Franklin then points out how white folks are fighting to get more that what they already have and black folks are fighting to survive and that America could care less. Teddy brings up how just because the playing field isn't level doesn't mean he does not have every opportunity. Franklin asked if Teddy believed that and Teddy tells Franklin that is what made America great. Franklin scoffs and informs Teddy that there are 2 different Americas and they don't live in the same one, but despite it all, they are still ending up doing dirt. He then talks about why he is in the game and asks Teddy what he's in it for. Teddy tells Franklin he might want to do good. Franklin, of course, jokes with Teddy and receives a page. Franklin heads to the payphone to make a call and Teddy is still at the booth. Franklin finishes and informs Teddy he needs to get going. Teddy tells Franklin he'll take care of the bill and Franklin heads off.
Franklin[]
Franklin enters the body shop of Jammin' Jerome's to see Leon and learn he is upgrading his sound system in his car. He then sees Jerome doing declining pushups with his feet on the coffee table. Leon then asks how Franklin asked Avi about the connect and didn't to bring it up in front of anyone else. Franklin tells Leon he believes Teddy is working for some big people and will fill Leon in once he learns more. Jerome then walks over to the boys, greets his nephew, and looks in Leon's trunk. He then asked Leon why he has his speakers placed so far in the back, noting how distorted the sound will be. Leon tells Jerome he wants whatever will make the people feel him when he drives by and the mechanic, Demetrius, tells Jerome he didn't want to take up the whole trunk. Jerome then tells Demetrius it won't take up the trunk and they just have to pull the speakers forward. Demetrius tells Jerome it won't fit. Jerome snaps at his mechanic, tells him it will fit, he just has to pull them forward and turn them around. He then points at Demetrius's work shirt and states his shirt says 'Jammin Jerome's'. Franklin then pulls his uncle aside and they head to the office. Franklin suggests his mechanic might quit after that and Jerome points out Demetrius has five kids. Franklin then requested allowing him to store some of the product in the back of his shop for a short time. Jerome doesn't like the idea, fearing after the LAPD came to his house, he is worried about them showing up at his business. Franklin reminds his uncle that with Andre suspended, they will have breathing room. Franklin then assures Jerome that the raids won't be happening with him sidelined and this was only temporary. He then reminded Jerome how he talked of not wanting to leave the shop to deal with Manboy. Jerome agrees, but for a temporary time. Franklin then asked Jerome what he remembered about Jack Williams. Jerome remembered him as the one who was shot. Franklin then asked if he knew Jack was a snitch. Jerome tells his nephew he only heard rumors. Franklin then makes it clear that he wants to know what really happened. Jerome then asked what difference it made, since the police didn't need a reason to kill a black man. Franklin then asked if he meant the FBI, since Alton told Franklin they offed him. Jerome then tells his nephew to ask Alton about it. Jerome gets off his desk chair and tells Franklin to make sure the product is hidden behind the inventory.

Oso then offers to let them move in if they want or least wait until they find a place stateside so the kids can head to school. Nuvia then has Ernesto take the boys inside the house and let them pick their rooms. As the kids head inside, Oso sees something amiss on Hernan and asks about the problem. Hernan tells Gustavo they might not be able to leave after all. Nuvia explains it is her ex-husband, Ivan, who is Ernesto's paternal father, who went crazy upon learning they were leaving and threatened to kill her and come after them all should they leave. Hernan brings Gustavo down memory lane of Ivan and what he did to get thrown in prison. Gustavo then asks where he lives.
Franklin[]
Franklin is back at Rafiki Books where Mrs. Mosley shows Franklin the computer, reminding him to unplug it once he's not using it for it is so old it overheats. She then hands him a box and requests him to clean up his mess once he's done. He then goes through the box consists of negatives of old photos of newspaper articles and gets to work. He finally uncovers an article about a Black Panther member found dead with a single gunshot wound to the head with no weapon found. He finally stumbled upon Jack's murder story and learned it was a single gunshot.
Teddy[]
Teddy and Julia are back at the warehouse enjoying takeout and some wine. Julia then started bringing up something Rigo said to her. Teddy then states how he brought up Lorena seeing how he read his lips at the club. Teddy then told his ex how Lorena left the DEA and began working for him and was collecting info on various Colombians, Rigo especially. Julia then pointed out how Teddy said 'Was'. Teddy then talked about how he made a mistake by being in two places at the same time and that mistake got her killed. Julia is shocked to hear that and asked about her body. Teddy states the body has been disposed to keep the agency from being exposed. Julia is at a loss for words and just says she's sorry. Teddy is vice versa to her sorry as they continue on their meal.
Andre[]
Andre returns home, lays his keys on the counter, and pops open a beer from the refrigerator. Melody then appears and tells her father she agrees to go to school but as long as she does the road trip, the one they talked about. Seeing how classes at Spelman doesn't start for 3 weeks, Melody states they take that time on the road trip and by then she'll be healed of her bruises. Andre then asked how soon she wants to leave. Melody tells him she wants to leave on the next day and the day after will be the latest. Melody tells her father she needs to pack her things and say her farewells. Andre likes the terms. Melody then tells her father that there is a party with a lot of people and she'd like to go. Andre agrees to that term as well and asks what else. Melody finishes her terms and returns to her bedroom.
Franklin[]
Franklin has reappeared at Avi's place. Muir stops him before he gets to close. Avi then tells Franklin he has something, but reminds him that he survived a lifetime in a game that Franklin hasn't played as long as him and won't be going away, especially by someone like Franklin Saint. Franklin ignores Avi's boozy rants and asks if he has what he came for. Avi then pulls a file off the bar and states he'll give it to Franklin because he's a man of his word. Franklin states Avi will give it to him because he lied to him and owed him. Franklin then notes how Avi brought this charade upon himself. Franklin then checks the file to see what is inside. Avi then tells him there is one more that's not in the file but it will cost him another week of free interest. Franklin agrees and wants to know. Avi then brings up Matt, the pilot, stating that he and Teddy are brother. Franklin asked if he was sure. Avi then talked about the time in Panama and how he was out of his mind on coke and let it slip out. Whether Matt was his real name or not, Avi made it clear he and Teddy are brothers. Avi then lets Franklin know when he has his money. Franklin then leaves with some satisfaction.
Alton[]
Franklin goes over the file Avi presented him to Cissy and Alton over Teddy McDonald. He placed a photo of Teddy on the Table of him in Tel Aviv in 1978 under the alias, James Smith. He laid down another of him in Tehran in 1980 under the alias Thomas Parker. They now know Teddy works for the CIA. Alton then asked if Franklin learned of anything else about Teddy. Franklin tells his father that is all he has. Alton then asked his son if he had ever taken him to any place official or had him sign anything or received money. Franklin tells him that all he did was pay him for the product. Alton then asked if Teddy was working with anyone. Franklin states he works wherever and changes things up from time to time. He then pointed out how he learned of his pilot being his brother. Alton then comes to an understanding that Teddy has no help from the CIA and it will be that way since the U.S. Government want to keep their hands clean of pushing drugs onto their streets. Alton points out that Teddy is alone and Franklin isn't, and since Franklin is rich, Alton suggested using the money to fortify him. Franklin agrees, then sits down to ask Alton about Jack. Franklin talked about how he believed Jack to be gunned down and riddled with bullets, but just learned he was killed with a single gunshot to the head and demanded to know what really happened to him. Alton then told Franklin that once the FBI was done with Jack, they would tell anybody listening that he was a snitch, and when the Black Panthers learned, they weren't too happy. There is a scene going back to Jack William's final moment in 1968. There is a knock at the door and he awakens. He answers the door and it's Alton. Jack was surprised to see his cousin as he sat back down on the couch and Alton pulled out a gun to kill his cousin with. Alton finally made it known he killed Jack, making it clear how the Panthers wanted to torture him to no avail and Alton wanted to spare his cousin the suffering by giving him a quick death. Franklin now learned the truth and Cissy held onto Alton's hand. Before Alton could speak, Franklin tells him he did what needed to be done. Alton made it clear he didn't want that for Franklin. His son tells him it won't be like that because they will figure it out together.

Andre then tells the girls to have fun. Eva searches for Melody's pink halter hat while Melody is covering her bruises with some makeup. Eva then pulls out a sweater and tells her she can't take that with her to Georgia since she'll freeze over there. They have a small bit over Melody's clothes with Andre in ear sight. Andre is later seen driving down the road eating some fried chicken and listening to a sports station. He then spots Franklin hopping into his car from Cissy's place and leaving. Andre then decides it is time to tail Franklin and find out where he is hold up at. They are then in the hills and Andre's pursuit comes to an end when he is pulled over by the LAPD. As the police approach Andre, he tells them he is a cop. Instead, the police officer orders him to place his hands on the wheel as the other officer drew his service weapon. Andre is oblivious as the police officer repeated once more to place his hands on the wheel. Andre once more made it clear he was a cop. The police officer then pulled open the front door and yanked Andre out of his front seat, then placed him on the ground. Andre then made it clear he was part of the 37th Street Division and the cops refused to listen as they handcuffed him.
