Summary[]
Lorena[]
Franklin is being held in the interrogation room handcuffed to the table where Detectives Stern and Avilés are questioning him while Lorena is behind the one-way glass staring at him. Franklin demands a lawyer and the detectives leave and approach Agent Cardenas who quickly identifies Franklin as Kevin's killer.
Franklin[]
Franklin is at the LA County Jail now undergoing processing as he turns over his belongings, gets his fingerprints, takes a mugshot, strips down, showers, and has to undergo an awkward test on a bench where a bunch of inmates are sliding down the bench where the guards are saying 'Nuts to butts'. One of the inmates, who Franklin is standing behind, gets out of line with the guards and claims he will have no part in it. One of the guards punches the guy and the guards take him away. Franklin, however, complies. He is then given the bend over and cough test and has his pupils checked. He finally has his prison uniform and is placed in a cell with other hardened criminals. He is then given a chance to make a phone call and contacts Jerome and tells him he is locked up in Central and to contact his attorney Johnson Young. Jerome then promised Franklin he would fight this case on the outside and get him bail. Franklin then asked about Louie and Leon. Jerome tells him that Louie is with him and has no information about Leon. He then asks if he needs anything from him. Franklin tells him to just get the attorney to the jail. The call then ends. He is then escorted down a cell block where he is sharing a cell with some hardened thugs and is told to sit on the toilet. One of the inmates tells Franklin that the government set him up and asked if the same thing happened to him. Another inmate tells that very inmate to stop spewing that nonsense and threatened him. Later on, Franklin is told by a guard that he has a visitor. He meets with his attorney, J. Young, who gives Franklin the low down on how he was being charged with first degree murder and within 2 days they will fight this in court with a plea of 'not guilty'. Franklin then makes it clear to J. Young that he needs to get out and make bail. J. Young assures him he'll make bail since this is his first offense. The visitation ends and Franklin returns back to his cell.
Lorena[]
Teddy and Lorena are at the bar. Teddy then lectures her about why Nixon started the DEA and their war on drugs, how it was an intent to keep minorities on their backs. Lorena doesn't see how that means allowing the flow of drugs into the country. Teddy respects her answer and explains that until people stop doing drugs, the war on drugs will just become a losing and costly fight. Lorena is then realizing that Teddy is claiming his war is legit and noble whereas her war has no point. Teddy is then requesting her to give him a year or two so that the Nicaraguans can fight the Communists and take back their country. He then offers to hand her over every distributor, every dealer, and every supplier he came across, promising her she would make the largest series of drug-related arrests in the country. He then asks her to take a day or two to consider the position and reminds her that they are on the same team as he leaves.
Franklin[]
Franklin is in his cell sleeping as he hears the gate opening and enter two inmates being greeted by Franklin's cellmate, who then gets Franklin's attention. One of of the inmates then asks Franklin what his shoe size is. Franklin is later deprived of his shoes. Down the road, he is then lined up with other inmates for arraignment and brought to the court room where he sees Cissy, Alton, Jerome, and Louise in the benches. J. Young then approaches Franklin and tells him to hang tight. Court is then is session as he waits on many people being called in front of him, many of whom are being granted bail. Franklin finally has his name called and he stands. J. Young announces himself as the defense attorney, while Colin Grant, the county DA, announces himself as the prosecution. Young enters a plea of 'not guilty' and is able to get Franklin a court date in mid March. As soon as the judge grants bail at $75,000, Grant then requests the bail being denied on the grounds that the suspect was identified as the shooter by the DEA, how he fled the scene of the crime, drove a car that didn't belong to him, had a load of money on his person, and carried a fake ID. He even suggested Franklin being a flight risk. J. Young then tells the judge that Franklin has no recent priors and asks how many people under 21 don't have fake ID's, he then implores the judge to grant bail. The judge then changes her, denies Franklin bail, and orders him to be transferred to Pitchard Detention Facility and remain in custody until his trial. He is then in line with other inmates who were denied bail and an inmate next to him is an inmate mouthing off about how it's mostly them black folks in chains and berates the head guard, who orders him to shut up or wind up in an ambulance and asks Franklin what he's looking at. He then orders the inmates in lines of two to the transport buses. They arrive at Pitchard, where they were placed in a holding cell. There is a fight between two guys and the inmates seemed to enjoy it while Franklin watches in horror. The inmates are then brought to general population and Franklin claims an unused bed. He is then spotted by Ray-Ray who approaches Franklin and welcomes him. He then tells his boys how they used to chop it up on the block together, even though Franklin knew that to be a lie. Ray-Ray then asked Franklin what he was brought in for, and Franklin answers it as 'some bullshit'. Ray-Ray claims the same with him stating he's only in for a couple of months. Ray-Ray then states to Franklin that they may not see eye-to-eye but they came from the same hood and must stick together. Franklin. of course, agrees with Ray-Ray and shakes it off with him. Franklin then returns to his bed to fix his bed sheets. Later that night, Franklin is asleep and pulled off his bed by Ray-Ray and his boys. They begin to beat him down and Ray-Ray claims it was for Lenny and how he wouldn't let that slide. They finish and Ray-Ray gives Franklin an final kick to the ribs. Franklin is pretty much on the floor for the remainder of the night. He is later admitted to the infirmary where he is patched up. A guard then escorts Franklin to visitation where he is greeted by Jerome and Leon. Jerome, upon seeing Franklin's injuries asks who did that, assuming it was the Mexicans. Franklin tells him Ray-Ray is in their and wouldn't let what happened with Lenny slide. Jerome then tells Franklin to let Ray-Ray know that he knows where his family lives and threaten them. Jerome then expressed his frustration for J. Young failing to get him out on bail like he promised. Franklin tells his uncle it doesn't matter, and Jerome disagrees, claiming they will get him out. Jerome then tells Franklin that Louise was gonna visit him but they can only allow two visitors at a time, so she'll visit at a later time. Jerome then hands Leon the phone and Leon tells Franklin he was right to have never let her in the cook house to begin with. Leon then reminds Franklin he's been where he was and asks him that when he is escorted back to gen pop he is to find the first inmate he encounters and let people know he's not the person to be messed with. Franklin is then returned back to gen pop and passed up an inmate ripping up his bedsheets for some unanimous reason and returns to his bunk. At night, he is awake and see Ray-Ray and his boys sneaking up upon him wanting another shot at him and then notices the same inmate who was ripping up his bedsheets lynching himself, apparently he turned his sheets into a noose. Ray-Ray and the others see it and retreat to the bunks, giving Franklin some breathing room. Franklin awakens the next day to see his cellmates from the LA County Jail in Pitchard and spots the guy who stole his shoes from him. Franklin is then brought to visitation where he is happy to see his mother, but frowned upon his father. When Cissy picked up the phone, Franklin signals to Alton, who then collects the phone from Cissy. Franklin then tells Alton to get Cissy out of there since she couldn't keep it together. Cissy gets up, completely emotional that her only child is in jail with bruises and cuts. Alton then returns to the booth and asks how Franklin is doing. Franklin is astonished how his parents have reconnected. Alton then tries to give Franklin some advice, in which Franklin is not interested in hearing, snapping at him for finally acting like a dad when he is locked up. Franklin bangs on the window and just flips out at him. The guards rush in and pull Franklin out of visitation with Alton and Cissy watching and begging them not to hurt him. Franklin is then returned to gen pop where he spots the inmates that stole his shoes at the LA County jail. He approaches that very inmate, knocks him to the ground, and takes back his shoes. The inmates buddies then jump Franklin and the guards rush in to grab Franklin, who still has a tight grip on his shoes. Franklin is then placed in solitary confinement and still hangs on to his shoes while being locked up in there. He is then released from solitary and sent back to gen pop. He then confronts Ray-Ray and tells him his reason for being in Pitchard. He stated how he killed Kevin, and tells Ray-Ray he and his crew know the address of his family. He then warns Ray-Ray and his boys what will happen to their families if they ever jump him again. Ray-Ray doesn't seem to take Franklin seriously as he scoffs, but Franklin turns around and mentions the name 'Lenny', which is a shocker to Ray-Ray. Franklin then calls Jerome's place and requests to talk to Louise.
Teddy[]
Teddy arrives at the cemetery where he meets Louie and asked what the meeting was about. Louie lays it down that Franklin wants things to continue while he's incarcerated and makes it clear she'll run the business if she has to, but states the best course of action is to get Franklin out of Pitchard. She then points out how Teddy is a man who is well connected and can make it possible. Teddy then brings up the murder charge. Louie then stated there was a DEA agent who saw the shooting take place and is the only eye witness. Louie then suggests the said witness went away, and the charges would drop. Teddy does not like the idea of offing a DEA agent just to get his buyer out of prison and asks for time to think about it as he approaches his car. Louie then stops Teddy, states that this is new territory for her, and implores him to help get her nephew out of Pitchard. She then states if there is anything Teddy can do, it should be done. Later that night, Teddy is parked in a lot overlooking LA with his service weapon in hand and conceals it as Lorena pulls up next to his vehicle. Lorena agrees to help Teddy in funding his fight against the Communists but only on the conditions that they deal in cocaine, no other drug, keep an eye on all of the players, and that she gets to take down all of the dealers that helped fund their fight. Teddy agrees to her terms, then brings up the issue of her witnessing Franklin killing Kevin in Acuña Park, and states how he allegedly shot him to prevent a gang war. Lorena then makes it clear that she saw the whole thing and was with Kevin the moment he died. Teddy then requests Lorena to go to the detectives working the case and recant her statement, saying she made a mistake. Lorena flips out at Teddy, stating she could be hit with a perjury charge. Teddy then reminds her she is a federal officer, and the LAPD will not like it, but will let it slide. Lorena then asks who Franklin is to him, and Teddy makes it known that Franklin is important for now.
Franklin[]
It is visitation hour and Franklin is approached by J. Young who has the news that Franklin is being released. Franklin is now out of prison and at the cemetery where he spots Kevin's headstone. He is then approached by Teddy who thanks him for getting him out of prison. At another time at Jerome's place, Franklin tells his Aunt Louie how he went to Avi and offered him $80,000 in reparations for helping him out and introducing him to Teddy, who got him off the murder charge. He told her that he is someone to be feared. Back to the cemetery, Franklin makes it known to Teddy that Kevin had to much breathing room, allowing him to bend the rules, and declares that anyone who got out of line or broke the rules from that point on would be out, regardless of who broke them. Franklin then shows Teddy they are back in business and shake on it.
