Lorena Cardenas, or also known under the alias 'Soledad Caro', is an undercover DEA agent first appearing in Season 2, and later a CIA asset in Season 3. She is the primary antagonist for the Villanueva Storyline in Season 2 and a minor character in Season 3.
Biography[]
She masqueraded as Pedro Nava's fiancé in order to help him shut down Villanueva Cartel. She exposed her cover during an incident involving Los Monarcas, which resulted in the death of Stomper, Memo, and Stranger. and put Pedro in danger. After busting Lucia and El Oso, the CIA moved in on her operation, forcing her to shut down and let them go. Later on, she started working as an asset for the CIA under Teddy McDonalds supervision and agreed to portray a dirty agent in his war against the Communists in Central America as long as they only dealt in cocaine. She was even asked to recant a statement to the LAPD after watching Franklin Saint kill Kevin Hamilton at Acuña Park. Acting as a turned DEA Agent working for 'Reed Thompson', Lorena informed Gustavo and Mariela they would be working for her. Instead, El Oso, still reeling from the betrayal, chose to kill her.
Legacy[]
Lorena was driven to bringing down the Villanueva's as well as their customers and suppliers. She was also shown to lack patience, especially with Lucia, after failing to get the bigger fish like she planned to. Though her narrative as Pedro's fiancé was a façade, there was however some intimacy between them as she has shown to care a great deal about him and his well-being. Despite her deal with Teddy after her op was scrambled, she continued her relentless pursuit of shutting down the Villanueva's and their customers by reaching out to Tony. She, however, failed to see the outcome of her espionage when coming across Gustavo one final time.
