Nicaragua is a country located in Central America between Honduras and Costa Rica. The Capital is Managua. During the 1960's and 1970's the FSLN, a leftist coalition, won the revolution against brutal Somoza regime, which was aligned with the United States. During the time of "Snowfall" (1983) the United States trained and supplied arms to ring-wing insurgents that opposed the majority leftist coalition government that was set up after the reconstruction period following the fall of the dictatorship. The FSLN was democratically elected after the reconstruction period. Nevertheless, Ronald Reagan persisted on waging war on Latin American autonomy and leftist politics- which was the reason why there was continued covert military operations and support for the Contras (the right wing insurgents). The contras were known for their use of child soldiers, torture and civilian executions. Because of this, the revolution was followed by a civil war.
