Franklin
The last couple of months have been strange, but I couldn't stop myself giving you a card like every other year. No matter what I pray for you everyday. I wish you nothing but happiness. Happy Birthday.
Love,
Mel
Franklin read through the card, especially since it came from someone that tried to kill him. He is seen arriving at Louie's new nightclub with a cane in hand, courtesy of Melody. Franklin checks out the new place and Louie brings him to the office to show him the ledger of the bricks then flew in and out, the expenses, the cash, the payroll, and payouts, especially Nix. Franklin then asked Louie if Nix was trouble while he was in the hospital. Louie tells him he just gets the cash and turns a blind eye. She then presented a map of the territories, stating the drugs are still flowing but there have been shooting and people are getting antsy. She tells him that they are barely keeping up with the buy so he can forget about growing the business. She also points out the more product coming over the border means more competition. She then pointed out how their getting the product from Teddy cheap which is why they have any sense of power and control. She then stated that the change in price and purity could spell trouble for the Family. When asked about how working with Teddy was, Louie answered fine. When Franklin asked about the cash, Louie leads him to his cash room and states that's not all of it. Jerome appears and Louie lets him know she is bringing him up to speed on the business. Franklin then thanks his aunt and uncle for keeping the business going while he was in the ER, noting it wasn't easy for them. Jerome then pointed out it was chaos while he was absent and heading to a gang members funeral is a crazy idea. Franklin tells them he would understand if they wanted to sit this one out. Jerome and Louie head off as Franklin looks at his money once more.
Teddy[]
Teddy and Gustavo are at the docks as they await Franklin who arrives with his new bodyguard, Lurp. Franklin introduces his new gang member and Oso asked about his name. Lurp stated he was part of the Long Range Recon Patrol in Vietnam and the name stuck. Teddy and Franklin then walk down the pier and Teddy asks Franklin if he was hiring mercenaries now, and Franklin states they can't be too careful. Franklin then notes how the gang wars are getting chaotic by the day. As they reached the end of the pier, Teddy then asked if he knew the players and tried talking sense into them.
Skully[]
Skully is attending the funeral of one of his fallen enforcers while staring at a carving of Jesus on the cross. Franklin introduces himself and Skully asked how difficult it was to place Jesus on the cross. Franklin then stated he came to pay his respects after he lost one of his own. He then brings up the situation between him and Manboy and offered to help squash the beef before more people get killed. Skully tells Franklin that Manboy is the problem and needs to learn how to shut his mouth. Upon losing one of his own, he makes it clear that Manboy is screwed. Franklin notes how Skully wants to hit back but wants to offer a way to make this right. Skully scoffs, turns to his woman, Khadijah, who is in the pew with their daughter, Tianna, asking if she heard what he said about Manboy being family and they should kiss and make up. Skully then makes up his mind, that he will every Crip in Compton as well as anyone who stands between him and Manboy.
Manboy[]
At the cook house, Manboy notes how everyone from the Family is dressed like they came from a funeral. Franklin tells them they were at one in Inglewood. Manboy tells Franklin that funerals will happens should anyone come at them and reminds Franklin that Skully was crazy. Outside, Manboy states to everyone that should the Bloods charge at them again, they are to kill every one of them, and suggested to the family to hang on to their dress suits for there would be more funerals to come as everyone is loading up bags in the trunks.
Franklin[]
As they are wrapping up the meeting at the pier, Franklin then asked Teddy if he or his people could help him out with this before things get out of hand. Teddy tells Franklin that there are things he could help him with and things he can't and stopping a gang war is something he can't do. Teddy then talked about the Middle East in the 1950's and how chaotic it was. He spoke of the Iranians nationalizing the own oil pipeline under General Mohammed Mosaddegh and folks were concerns that the General had sympathy for Communists and feared he was a puppet for the Soviet Union and would give the Russians most of the free world's oil preserve. He then talked about the CIA orchestrating a coup to replace Mosaddegh with Zahedi, but ultimately, Shah Pahlavi presented problems of his own, and Franklin realized he was the lesser of 2 evils. Teddy told Franklin it was necessary at the time to take action and back the side that benefitted them in the long run and try to maintain some measure of control. He then asked Franklin if he supplies both sides. Franklin nods and Teddy tells him to hang in there as he leaves.
Irene[]
At the Los Angeles Herald Examiner Office, Irene Abe rushes to her desk to answer her phone, which is ringing. She answers as she sits at her desk to talk to a source of hers named Chuck, and apparently the source is wanting to back out of a story she is writing. Irene then attempts to persuade the source, stating that whatever is happening will effect other people and it will brand his conscience. Irene ultimately lost the source and she snapped at the person on the phone, stating that the guards at the internment camp had more spine than him. She slams the phone down and Wilson approaches asking if everything is alright. Wilson brings Irene a file on Melody Wright, and Irene through it. She complimented Wilson on the find and Wilson couldn't help but smile. Irene then sends him away as she continued through the file.
Gustavo[]
In Tijuana, Gustavo is eating a taco as Teddy approaches him, asking for the keys to the truck. Gustavo tossed him the keys with a figurine, telling Teddy that his nephew, Cedro, gave that to him for Christmas, and then let Teddy know that he will be going to his nephews birthday party, inviting Teddy to come along. Teddy doesn't agree with the idea but lets him know that he shouldn't always be spending time alone. They hop in the truck and Teddy tells Gustavo that he wished he liked baseball, because that would be something they could talk about during the drives. Gustavo states he is a fan of Fernando 'The Bull' Valenzuela. Teddy tells Gustavo he kind of resembles the Bull. As Teddy starts up the vehicle, the Tijuana police hit the sirens and pull up behind the truck. Gustavo hops out of the truck and greets the Officers, Nestor Gutierrez and Javier Vasquez, and when asked about where he came from, Oso states he and Teddy were in Michoacán picking up avocados to ship to the states. Nestor then orders the men to open the truck. Teddy then approaches the cops and states they had a deal with Chief Cala. Nestor then breaks it to Teddy that Cala is no longer the Chief of Police in Tijuana. Teddy then requested a meet with Cala's boss and offers Nestor a cigarette while revealing a few hundred dollars. The police scoffed at the bribe attempt and Nestor demanded them to open the truck. Teddy opens the truck and Nestor checks the crates looking at the avocados, then sends Javier into the truck. Javier fishes through the crates, many of which are empty, then finds a loaded crate, drops it on the asphalt, revealing 2 kilos inside. The police then apprehend Gustavo and Teddy.
Franklin[]
Franklin and Peaches are now in the Projects, and approach Fatback, asking for Leon. Upon hearing what sounded like Leon with a woman in his pad, Franklin states he'll come around later. Fatback then lets him know Leon will put away his company for time with him. Fatback bangs on Leon's door while Franklin makes an observation of the Projects. Leon exits his place, zipping up his pants, and approaching Franklin while his female company leaves the place. Franklin then notes Leon for having the Projects on lockdown and ladies coming and going. Franklin then noted him for not being there the day prior when he was dealing with the feud between Manboy and Skully. Leon then tells Franklin there is nothing they can do except stay out of the way and be glad they haven't set their sights on the Family. Franklin then pointed out how 5 people were killed the week before in the Bottoms, none of who were in the game. Leon tells Franklin it is the cost of doing business. Franklin then states that if something is not done soon, it won't just be the Bottoms that becomes a battlefield, it could spread to their neighborhoods as well and their own families could be at risk. Leon reminds him they are already down that rabbit hole with too much money for the taking and folks becoming increasingly desperate and whatever is coming is inevitable. Franklin then asks why Leon is refusing to work with Louise. Leon then tells Franklin he just never got into the game just to take orders from his aunt. Though Franklin understood, he let Leon know he needed him on this. Leon then told Franklin he has business to handle and the Projects to run and can't just forgo that just to drive Franklin around. Franklin scoffs at the answer, showing that's not what he wanted Leon for. Leon tells Franklin he is good and prepares to return to his pad. Franklin then asked whether or not he is coming to Louise's New Years Eve party. Leon said he might and turns back around.
Gustavo[]
Gustavo and Teddy are now locked up in a Tijuana jail. The guard opens up the cell door calling for the Gustavo and Teddy to follow him. They are then seen following Officer Gutierrez to the office of the new Police Chief Oscar Fuentes. The chief offers them a seat, Teddy obliges but Oso chooses to stand. They introduce each other and Teddy clarifies the deal they had with the original Chief of Police, but Fuentes makes it known that whatever deal they had with Cala wasn't a fair one nor was Cala in the right mind when running the local police which is why he is no longer the Chief. Teddy then suggested making a new deal, one with Fuentes. Oscar then notes how Teddy and Oso are not the only ones moving product through his plazas and Teddy doesn't see why their business has anything to do with theirs. Oscar realized they needed him for this, lets them know that Nestor will send them back to their truck with the product inside and intact and his men can escort them to wherever they please, giving them time to think about a fair price to conduct business. Back at the tunnel house, Teddy is with Hernan and Nuvia as they bag up the kilos. Hernan pointed out to Teddy that they were arrested just so Fuentes' men could scrummage the truck to find out how many kilos they are bringing across. Gustavo suggested paying him and Hernan reminds them that turning away Oscar's request is something they could not afford. Gustavo grabs a loaded duffel bag, walks to the tunnel, whistles for one of his smugglers, and drops the bag in.
Bootsy[]
Back at the barbershop, Bootsy speaks of Franklin and states how weak he is and having to use a cane to move around. Manboy then tells Bootsy not to underestimate Franklin, because his brain is still functioning. Eureka then approaches Bootsy and Manboy asks where he found her at. Apparently, Bootsy is prepared to get some, and Eureka then gives Manboy an invitation, causing Bootsy to flip a lid. Manboy, however, turns down the invite. Bootsy tells them he will see them in a minute as he walks away with Eureka. Dimehead, however, finds that hard to believe while playing poker. Bootsy and Eureka head outside, start making out, and Eureka requests Bootsy to sit on a chair. He obliges her as she prepares to give him what looks like a blowjob. Bootsy is completely relaxed on the chair as he shut his eyes, and upon opening his eyes again, he sees Cornrows and another Blood standing over him, and Cornrows knocks Bootsy out with the butt of his shotgun. The next morning, Bootsy is crucified and left dead in a baseball park. He is discovered by a mother and her 2 children.
Franklin[]
There is a meeting at Louie's nightclub and Jerome states that Manboy will retaliate for Bootsy, and Louie points out that their dealers are too scared to sling rocks which is bad for business. Franklin then tells the Family they're going to pick a side, choose one and set the other one up, make the bodies disappear, end this feud as quickly and quietly as they can. Louie believes Franklin is speaking about a massacre, but Franklin states he'll be taking a few lives just to save a lot more. Jerome then states if they are choosing side, it should be with Manboy because Skully can't be trusted. Louie then states that Manboy may be the obvious choice and that Skully is a loose cannon, but at least he can stay in his lane. She then notes how Manboy has always been testing them, trying to take territory, and seek better deals. She makes it clear that Manboy is smart is ambitious compared to other gang leaders. She warns them that after Skully is finished, Manboy will set his sights on the Family.
Teddy[]
After loading up the kilos in the warehouse stateside, Teddy offers Gustavo a chance to get some rest in the warehouse if he doesn't want to drive back. Gustavo then tells Teddy that Nuvia is making menudo and takes off. Teddy is then in the office going through files, signing documents, lighting a cigarette, and snorting coke while getting sleepy. He receives a page and makes the call. He learns that the cargo in Costa Rica never arrived and calls Avi's number, but there was no answer. Teddy then left him a voicemail about the situation in Costa Rica and hung up.
Franklin[]
Franklin and Peaches arrive in the Bottoms and Peaches pulls a guitar case from the trunk. Franklin tells Peaches it would be best if he went alone and took the guitar case, leaving Peaches to guard the car. Franklin walks into the complex and is approached by Bloods. Cornrows then hollers at the guys to let him in. Franklin heads into the compound and approaches Cornrows.
Skully[]
Skully is in his pad braiding Tianna's hair. Khadijah tells him he should have use conditioner, for it would make working on her hair easier. Cornrows opens up and and informs Skully that Franklin comes bearing a gift. Skully sends Tianna away with Khadijah. Cornrows then sets the case on the couch and opens it, revealing an SVD Dragunov sniper rifle. Skully is impressed as Franklin states it is accurate from a half a mile away. He tells him there is a telescopic scope with 10 rounds magazines and stated a rumor that one of these guns once brought down an airplane. Skully then asked what he wanted, and Franklin stated that the feud between him and Manboy must be ended and would like to help him finish the war. He reminded Skully of what he said about Manboy showing no respect, wanting power and territory, and that Skully has stayed within his boundaries. Franklin then makes it clear that he is offering a helping hand. Skully then shows little trust for Franklin as well as Cornrows and Khadijah, who share Skully's concern. Franklin then wraps up the sniper rifle and tells him that if they don't want his help, they could continue shooting it out. Skully then asked how many more guns Franklin could acquire and Franklin told him he could get as many guns as he needs and states he can get his hands on Uzi's as well. Skully then asked who is supplying him, and Franklin tells him an Israeli, not dropping Avi's name, supplied him. Skully then asked the price for the guns, and Franklin told him the Drugunov's are 2 G's and the Uzi's are $600 and offered to introduce him to the supplier. Skully then warns Franklin not to play him otherwise he will flood his territory with Bloods.
Manboy[]
Franklin and Peaches arrive at the barbershop to meet with Manboy and offers his condolences for Bootsy while he is loading an Uzi clip. Franklin then tells Manboy that Skully needs to die and offers to help him out. Manboy refuses his help. Franklin then points out that Skully has an army waiting for him at the Bottoms and makes it known to Manboy that he will need his assistance. Manboy then asks Franklin how he plans to do that while loading his Uzi. Franklin then points out that Skully buys from him and trusts him and with him out of the picture, Inglewood will fall and will be bled dry, while Franklin makes it clear they'll be better off without Skully around as well as payback for Bootsy. Manboy then wonder how he would know if Franklin wasn't trying to screw him over. Franklin tells him he doesn't know and asks him to come for a ride.
Avi[]
Avi is back at his home making soup when Lior, who is at the table reading the newspaper, alerts him of visitors. Teddy and Gustavo arrive and Teddy is not too happy with Avi not fulfilling his end of the bargain. Avi apologizes for the shipment issues, stating it wasn't easy keeping in touch while in Argentina. Teddy then asked if he was taking a vacation while people are dying and his guns are missing. Avi then informed Teddy they were hunting a Nazi war criminal named Josef Schwammberger somewhere in Catamarca, noting him for running 3 concentration camps in Poland, and executed hundreds of innocent folks, women and children especially. Avi makes it clear he is very serious when it comes to those who orchestrated war crimes against the Jewish people. Teddy then makes his position known that he is currently more concerned about the guns. Avi tells him they're working on it, and while bringing 2 bowls of soup to the table, one for him and one for Lior, he asked Teddy if he knew how difficult the arm game is. Teddy states he doesn't have a clue but notes that he paid an alarming sum of cash so that if things went sideways he would trust Avi to fix the problem. Avi then tells Teddy he will send Lior to Panama to find out what happened with his guns. Teddy then states he wants Avi on that flight as well so he can learn for himself. Avi laughs and tells Teddy he trusts Lior with his life and he can find out. Teddy makes it clear he doesn't want one of his men fixing his problems for him. Lior then gets offended and asked Teddy if he think he couldn't handle himself and Teddy tells him he doesn't know him. There is trouble brewing between Teddy and Lior and Avi attempts to put it to a stop. They continue their war of words and Teddy draws his weapon and fires it near Lior's ear, nearly deafening him. Gustavo then points his weapon at Avi while his guards have their guns pointed at the duo. Avi then snaps at Teddy demanding to know his issue. Teddy then makes it clear he wants to know where his guns went to and he personally wants Avi and Avi alone to find out and to contact Teddy once he finds out.
Cissy[]
It is New Years Eve and Franklin sees that Cissy and Alton are enjoying a game of Monopoly. They see him without the cane and asked Franklin where that was. Franklin told his people he thought about heading off without it. Alton asked if that was wise and Franklin stated he thought about spending one night going somewhere and not having people see him like there was something wrong with him. Cissy points out there was something wrong with him. Franklin then requests that they come with him to the party, for it's a New Year with a fresh start and Jerome and Louise would appreciate it. He then states they all can bury the hatchet and get back to being a family again. Cissy then tells him to just stay safe. Lurp appears from the back room and tells Franklin he's ready whenever he is. Franklin and Lurp then head through the back.
Franklin[]
Louie is hosting a New Years Eve party at her nightclub and Louise brings Teddy and Oso to Franklin. Teddy compliments Louie for the nightclub while Franklin decides to bury the hatchet with whatever beef he had with Gustavo. Franklin then looks around the dance floor and discovers his old flame, Tanosse, there. Jerome then sees her and gives Franklin a hard time about her with him. Franklin then pulls Oso aside and offers some tequila, but Gustavo requested water, so they each get some water. Later on, Franklin approaches his ex and states how he shouldn't have been surprised to see her there, noting her as the girl who always knew everyone, let alone, being in the right place at the right time. He then looks around and sees Louie conversing with Teddy. Tanosse isn't much for conversation and stated she learned of him being shot thrice in Andre's house and pointed out how she never imagined Franklin being in the game. Franklin then stated he didn't like the alternative, which was playing by their rules. Leon, Fatback, and C.J. appear at the club and Franklin and Tanosse sees them. Tanosse then tells Franklin it's important to keep guys like him around, especially since Leon was in the game before Franklin started the business. There is a commotion as Leon snaps at Oso for being at the club, and Louie appears, demanding he doesn't cause a scene. Oso states he was invited, and when Leon demanded to know who invited him, Franklin made it clear they did. Jerome then jumps in to pull the guys aside and in the back, away from the party, Leon reminded Franklin that Kevin is dead because of the deal he struck with Oso and Lucia. Franklin then tells Leon that Kevin died because he couldn't listen to reason. Leon refused to accept that and pulled his gun on Gustavo. Teddy then asked Franklin to restrain Leon, who is going off about how they went to Kevin behind their backs and offered him Conejo in exchange for the crack recipe. He is then oblivious to the idea of Franklin working with him, and Franklin tells Leon that they were doing business with him for months and notes Leon for his many absences. Leon then stated to Franklin that while he was in the ER, gangs kept trying to take their territory and he and his boys were the ones keeping them at bay. Leon then expects some gratitude from Franklin and shows he doesn't like the idea of working with Oso. Louie then tells Leon to lower the gun, but Leon isn't having it as he snaps at her. Jerome then tells Leon to watch his mouth around Louie and Fatback gets mouthy with Jerome, nearly causing a fight between them. Franklin then tells Leon it's all about business. Leon doesn't agree with Franklin as he kept his gun trained on Oso. Franklin then steps in front of the gun and Lurp pulls his gun on Fatback, telling Leon to lower his weapon. Franklin then requests Teddy and Oso to leave, which they do as everyone lowers their guns. Leon tells Franklin he now lost, and that maybe the money has either messed up his head or he was never right to begin with. Franklin then tells Leon to grow up and stop acting like a child, telling him he is going to get himself killed one day and he would not be laying in bed thinking on how he tried to set him straight. Leon then tells Franklin he doesn't have to worry because he is out. Franklin then tells Leon to find his own plug and do whatever he pleases. Leon then shoves past Franklin, warning him to stay out of his way, as he, Fatback, and C.J. leave. Franklin then contracts an episode from his injuries and Jerome rushed to him.
Irene[]
It is the next morning and Irene has arrived in Odessa, Texas. She pulls up to Bernice's house and knocks on the door. Bernice answers and Irene introduces herself and asked about her brother, Sergeant Wright. Bernice is not comfortable talking about her dead brother and attempts to close the deal, but Irene tells her she drove a long way and would like just 5 minutes of her time. Melody then appears, completely sober and cleaned up, and asks her aunt to allow Irene in. She is allowed in and clarifies she knows Melody has been through a lot and won't cause problem. Melody palms her crucifix and tells Irene the Lord's justice will be served as he sees fit and the only thing they can do is be pure of heart in his gaze. Irene then talked of how she was aware of what happened to Andre and also notes how Franklin was shot the following week. Bernice comes to Melody's defense, stating she had no part in that and even stated that Franklin said he had no clue who shot him. Irene made it clear she wasn't accusing her and then asked Melody why her father did what he did. She also asked if Melody knew who shot Franklin and why. Melody then asked Irene why should would care about any of that. Irene told that no one else seemed to. Irene told her how she was born and raised in Crenshaw and even raised her own daughter there. She then told Melody that she was watching it change nearly by the day and it scares her because she doesn't know why. Irene then requests Melody's help so she can tell the story, getting folks to pay attention. Melody then tells Irene that it is not her place to try and stop what the Lord intends. Irene then stated how the Lord didn't expose Watergate, but Woodward and Bernstein did, and Melody told her he guided them just like he will or won't with her. Irene then suggested to Melody that maybe the Lord sent her to Texas for Melody to tell her what really happened and stated the truth would set her free.
Epilogue[]
In his room, Franklin is taking his pills and prepares to leave. At the barbershop, Manboy reminds his crew that the Bloods killed and crucified Bootsy. They all begin loading their weapons and follow Manboy out. At the Saint's home, Franklin is collecting his pistol and concealing it. In the Bottoms, Skully and his boys are gearing up for a possible conflict. We then see Franklin motioning toward the door and Alton asks if he is heading out. Franklin tells him a lie about getting some food with Lurp. Alton then asked what kind of gun he had on his waist knowing the late night craving story is false. Franklin didn't answer. Alton then suggested he would hook up the VCR and play Enter the Dragon. He then reminded Franklin of how he got him and Cissy to take him to see that movie and how he would always reenact chopping scenes in the house and nearly took out Leon with a chop. Franklin gets all teary-eyed upon hearing that and states he remembers it all. Alton then suggested that he stay in for the night, make popcorn, and watch the movie just like old times, and spend some time with his father.
