Story of a Scar is the ninth episode of the the first season of Snowfall. It is the ninth episode overall.

Outline

Franklin suffers the cost of his business. As Teddy’s situation deteriorates, so does his mental state. Gustavo and Lucia struggle with how to proceed.

Franklin
[]

Franklin is walking down the street back to his house after a shooting that was meant for him placed Leon in the ER. Before he reached the front door, he sees Andre talking to Melody and they are arguing about something while Cissy is in her house on the phone asking about Franklin's whereabouts. Franklin finally enters the house to see his mother worried sick, demanding to know where he was. Franklin told her he was at the police station and hugged her. They spoke about Leon and Franklin asked how he was. Cissy was hysterical and stated he is lucky to be alive after the shooting. Cissy then wonders why Leon was shot outside their home and asked if Franklin had anything to do with the shooting. Franklin states to her Leon is known to stir up trouble with some folks, may have talked down to the wrong person, and wound up getting caught off guard at their house. Cissy refuses to buy that story. She can tell Franklin is lying to her and tells him it scares her to see how easy it is for him to lie to her. She also informs Franklin that Jerome was there at the house and, unlike Franklin, had the nerves to show some guilt. When Franklin asked Cissy if he said anything, Cissy tells her son he didn't have to say anything and tells Franklin she wants to hear the truth from him and him alone, knowing full well they've been slinging weed. Franklin confesses to the weed business and tells her they've been at it for 6 months. After Cissy expresses her disappointment in her son, Franklin not only tells her he want something real happening, he also points out that he knows about Cissy smoking weed. Cissy not only denies it and snaps at Franklin. Andre then shows up the front door of their house and asks for Cissy. Franklin heads into the kitchen to fix a glass of water and stares out the window, since that is how he found Leon. Andre then approaches Franklin to tell him about the 2 guys he saw staking out his home in a car. He requests a name and states he'll take care of the rest. Franklin now realizes who was there to waste him, but tells Andre he couldn't help him there and heads to his bedroom.


Teddy
[]

Teddy is at the warehouse talking to Julia on the phone talking about a fish tank. He sees Alejandro entering the warehouse and informs Julia he needs to hang up. Alejandro then empties the duffel bag with several kilos of coke, stating that's all they were able to salvage. Teddy then asked about Elena, and Alejandro informed him she's alive but wound and being treated at Soto Cano. Teddy finally realizes with the camp taken out, their cocaine pipeline is shot to hell. Alejandro then tells Teddy he has other suppliers they can use. He states they can work with some Colombians living in Cali. Though Teddy does not like the idea of working with the Medellín Cartel, his back is against the wall and has no other option. Alejandro says he can set up a meet, but it can only be him that meets the Colombians.


Gustavo

Lucia is meeting Gustavo at a hotel he is currently staying at. She informs him the Ramiro knows everything and is none too happy about the situation, but has agreed to let the operation continue on the terms that he gets to run the operation and the business with Stomper comes to a halt. She then tells Gustavo that once her father dies, they can find their own distribution network. Lucia then tells Oso the final conditions is that Ramiro wants him dead, knowing he killed Max and Enrique, and instead hands him an envelop of cash and tells him to run. Gustavo realizes soon enough she is siding with Ramiro and Pedro, especially after the damage Pedro caused. Lucia reminds him that they are her family and she cannot betray her own flesh and blood. Gustavo gives Lucia back the envelop and tells her he ain't running nor does he plan on giving up and it only depends on what Lucia wants.


Franklin
[]

Franklin is outside Melody's school where he sees Melody and approaches her. As he explains to Melody that he was trying to get ahold of her, she hugged him and kissed him. Franklin then asked about how the Summer classes were treating her. Melody states they are boring but would look good on her transcripts. Melody then asks how Leon's holding up. Franklin tells Melody that Leon is being discharged from the hospital on that day. They are both at the Wright residence in Melody's bedroom and Franklin manages to retrieve his bag filled with crack from her closet. Melody sees Franklin exit her closet with his backpack and Franklin explains that with the police and ambulance rushing to his home, he had to hide his drug stash somewhere. Melody was offended and infuriated that Franklin would use her bedroom as a hiding place and possibly risk her like that. She then tells him to leave her home which he does.


Teddy
[]

There is a knock at Teddy's door. He looks out the peephole and answers. It's Victoria, and she brings him a gift of a bunny rabbit drawing by someone named Harvey as a thank you token for helping her in the search for Kristen. Teddy tells her he couldn't accept such a gift, however, Victoria insisted considering he was the only bright spot for her during the time she spent searching for her sister, despite the fact that he was the one puking and getting punched. Victoria then tells Teddy that she can't keep going down rabbit searching for her sister and states she needs to accept the fact that she is gone. Victoria then hugs Teddy and takes off.


Louie
[]

Cissy enter Jerome's house and sees Louie stuffing an envelop with photo. Louise tells Cissy that Jerome isn't home but Cissy tells her sister-in-all she is searching for Franklin, knowing now what he's been up to for the past 6 months. Louie, of course, tells her Franklin isn't there either. Cissy is about to leave but turns around and asks Louise if she had been apart of the business Jerome and Franklin have been conducting, knowing they've been locking up stuff around there home. Instead, Louise tells Cissy that Jerome and Franklin are not in the house, and it's just her. Cissy throws her purse on the table, sits down, and reminisces about how she never should have allowed Franklin to quit college and the fact that Jerome has allowed her son to sling weed for him. Louie comes to Jerome's defense and tells her that Franklin has been pushing ahead and she should not be blaming Jerome for her issues with Franklin. She even brings up how she's been kissing the ass of some rich real estate agent and Cissy demands her to stop. Cissy then tells Louie she earned her money standing on her 2 feet providing food and shelter for Franklin and not playing hustle with her man. Louie quickly gets offended and warns her to watch her mouth. Cissy then tells her she would not watch her own son be dragged into some gutter like in which she came from and prepares to leave the home. Louie, now pissed beyond all recognition, calls out Cissy for her hypocrisy and tells her to leave as Cissy approaches her car.


Teddy
[]

Teddy is at the marina and sees Alejandro walking down the docks. He then looks for a good vantage point to find the boat Alejandro will board and enters a seaside diner called the Chowder Barge. Teddy asks the waitress if they're open and she's say sure and allows him to choose his own table. He chooses a booth and manages to find Alejandro meeting 2 Colombians on their boat and starts taking photographs and spots another unusual character whom he photographs as well. The waitress then asks Teddy if he's ready to order while he's photography and he orders clam chowder and water. The waitress heads off and he notices the unknown male he photographed is no where in sight.


Franklin
[]

Franklin arrives at Leon's place to see Leon lying on a couch while his siblings are watching a Bruce Lee movie. Franklin hands the kids some cash for candy and lets them run out the house. He presents Leon a brand new pair of sneakers as hazard pay. Leon then told Franklin it was just Lenny who was there and almost killed him. Leon then reminds Franklin that if he is to strike, it wouldn't be about payback, but about rep and let people know they are not to be messed with.


Teddy
[]

Teddy is still at the diner barely touching his clam chowder and hears this constant hammering. The waitress brings Teddy his checks and Teddy asks if that noise is not bothering him. The waitress has no idea what Teddy is talking about. Teddy then pays his bill. The hammering soon dies down and Teddy looks outside with his camera in hand toward the Colombian deal on the boat to see one of the Colombians strike Alejandro. He gets a shot of that and then sees the other mysterious man he was concerned about about and exits the diner. He then notices the mysterious figure passing up the Colombian boat without a how-do-you-do and realized that was just another dead end for him. He then sees Alejandro raising a toast with the Colombians.


Louie
[]

Jerome returns home calling for Louie. He kisses her in excitement however Louie informed him that Cissy was at their house looking for him and Franklin and even explained her frustration with his sister. Jerome then poured a paper bag full of cash on the coffee table and spoke about how people kept coming back for more despite upgrading from nickels to dimes. Louie is astonished after seeing him acquire that kind of money in one day.


Franklin

Franklin arrives to see Claudia at her nightclub and introduces him to her new girl, Shayla. Franklin then tells Claudia he needs to speak with her. Claudia then hands Santos her clipboard and gives him some orders to follow then sends her new girl away. Claudia then brings Franklin to her office where Franklin informs her Leon was shot but still alive and requests a sit-down with Ray-Ray. Claudia doesn't agree with the idea of using her time and resources to arrange such a meeting, however she is willing to arrange a sit-down but will need something in return.


Teddy
[]

Teddy arrives at the warehouse and Alejandro informs his the Colombians agreed to front 50 kilos of cocaine and explains the prices will be fair if they were to pick it up in Mexico and pick it up themselves. Teddy agrees to that as long as they don't wind up stranded in the middle of the desert again. Alejandro knows something is off and is wondering why Teddy is not pulling something or asking a bunch of questions. Instead Teddy just thanked him and then speak about his wife and how she was flown from Soto Cano to Dallas because the doctors there didn't have the necessary equipment to treat her wounds. He then tells Alejandro that the immigration paperwork is taken care of so she'll be good to go. There is a knock on the loading bay and Alejandro opens it up. Lucia, Pedro, and Ramiro arrived and Pedro introduced his father to the duo while stating they are good with the cash. Teddy then demands to know where Gustavo is. Pedro informs them that his father is running everything now and Ramiro suggested they increase the buy hoping it would ease Teddy's mind. Alejandro asks how much they plan to increase. Ramiro requests 25 kilos for the first buy and would double it the next buy and declares his son will carry out all transactions from that point on and tells both Teddy and Alejandro to show some respect for him. Alejandro agrees and escorts the Villanuevas to the product.


Gustavo
[]

Gustavo is at Stompers place to see Stomper as he is playing cards with Hernan, Memo, and a few others to inform him their deal is off. Stomper is less than satisfied with Gustavo, and believes Lucia screwed them and decided to send Oso as a messenger. Oso tells him he came on his own accord and even he's being screwed over as well, he even reminded Stomper that Hernan vouched for him. He told Los Monarcas that now her family is now involved in her business. Now aware that the Villanueva Cartel is his competition, Stomper then asks Gustavo what he knows about them and where they live and kind of people they have. Gustavo tells him he does.


Franklin
[]

Franklin is at Jerome's place talking to his Auntie Louie and states the only way for Claudia to set up the meeting with Ray-Ray was for Jerome to leave. Louie then tells her nephew that she and Claudia had a past together. Franklin then brings up how Lenny is the one who needs to answer and Louie agrees to go along with it as long as Franklin gets her Claudia and her nightclub. Franklin thought she was joking but then realized she was being serious.


Lucia
[]

At the cook house, Ramiro points out to Lucia the numbers and states as soon as the business goes off, they will bring in more people and guns and find someone to work the books. Lucia tells her uncle she doesn't need help with the books. Ramiro then reminds Lucia that should anything happen to her, he doesn't want only her to know about their finances. Pedro gets a page and Lucia asks what it's about. Pedro informs Lucia it's coming from her fathers home. Lucia then takes off.


Teddy
[]

Teddy wakes up from his bed to hear his message machine going off. Victoria calls and leaves a voicemail about something she found that could help them in their search for Kristen. Before she could finish the message, Teddy answers the phone and speaks to her. At a film studio, Victoria explains she may have found a lead while cleaning up her sisters apartment and found a bunch of photos. She introduced Teddy to Rinaldi, a photographer who has taken various photos especially at the Glitter Club. They discover he has photos of Kristen and Jess leaving with Alejandro. Teddy realizes now that Victoria has restarted her search for Kristen and now knows who she is searching for which now poses a problem for him and Alejandro.


Franklin
[]

Franklin is at the diner waiting on Ray-Ray. He finally appears and sits at the booth with Franklin, who offers some food, but Ray-Ray turns down the offer. Ray-Ray asks Franklin what he thought would happen after breaking into Lenny's home and beating the hell out of him. Franklin points out that he and Lenny started it and Karvel was the one who 'gave it to him'. Ray-Ray then tells Franklin it was Lenny who killed Karvel's boys, which explains who killed J.J. and his girl. Franklin tells Ray-Ray that his (Franklin's) next door neighbour is a cop, who saw 2 guys scoping out his (Franklin's) home and is tracking them down as suspects. Ray-Ray all of a sudden has it in his head that Franklin's a snitch. He then tells Franklin they're in the wrong place to discuss a truce. Franklin tells Ray-Ray he is not there to discuss a truce, but for business.


Epilogue
[]

Cissy is suited up and preparing for work. Teddy is in bed just staring at the Harvey picture Victoria gave him. Louise is at Claudia's nightclub where we see Santos escorting her to Claudia's office, which she enters and Claudia closes the door with a smile upon her face. Gustavo and Stomper enter a shed to acquire some hardware to light up the Villanuevas. At the villa, Mauricio has passed away and we see Lucia and Ramiro there as Ramiro covers his brother-in-law's face. Ray-Ray leaves the diner after a business talk, with Franklin sitting inside and watching him walk off.
