Trauma is the fourth episode of the the first season of Snowfall. It is the fourth episode overall.
Outline
Franklin and Leon deal with the thief. Teddy goes to extreme measures to protect the CIA. Lucia and Gustavo connect in the aftermath of the previous night.
Summary[]
Lucia[]
The show begins with Gustavo opening the trunk of Pedro's car with Pedro and Lucia, who has blood on her face, by his side. Gustavo reaches for a set of keys by Enrique's corpse in the trunk. He closes the trunk and the trio walk away. At the safehouse, Lucia cleans herself up while Pedro sits on the ground thinking about how they were able to pull off taking out Enrique. Lucia then reaches in the back of her hair and pulls out some kind of metal object covered in blood. Lucia then walks off.
Franklin[]
Franklin is under a bridge testing out Jerome's pistol on his old toys. His shooting is poor as he keeps missing. Leon approaches Franklin to inform him he found Karvel and warned him he spent some of his cash. Franklin is still working on his aim and Leon points out that he needs to be able to use that when facing his gang. Franklin chastises Leon for the lecture and tells him to scram. Leon then reaches for the gun to offer Franklin some pointers but Franklin wants none of it. Leon once again reaches for the gun and there's a struggle which ends with the gun being flung into Franklin's face, nearly cutting his eyelid. Franklin snaps at Leon on fighting over a loaded gun and Leon lashes back. Franklin then draws his gun on his targets and begins to focus.
Teddy[]
Teddy is now in the jungles of Nicaragua as he is searching for the Contra Camp Alejandro spoke of. As he continues his search, he is spotted by a young child in a tree who jumps down to the ground. When Teddy introduced himself, the boy made a hasty retreat and began yelling out in Spanish 'Intruder' with Teddy following behind. He is quickly surrounded by contras and surrenders right then and there. He then explains in their native tongue that he is looking for Alejandro Usteves. Alejandro was standing behind him and asked how he managed to get to Nicaragua. Teddy was not happy with Alejandro and told him the serial numbers on all the LAWs needed to be etched. Alejandro also explained that those guns were direly needed and informs Teddy of a leech crawling on his arm. Teddy reacts, flings off the leech, and flips out. In the camp, Teddy is scratching out the serial numbers on one of the weapon as he sees the kids from earlier playing with a monkey. Elena Usteves, leader of the Sandinistas and Alejandro's wife, approaches Teddy and suggested using iodine tablets on the leech bite. Teddy then explains he has to wait 30 minutes for iodine to kick in. A soldado named Mateo passes both Teddy and Elena and makes a vulgar statement to Teddy, who then informs Elena such believe is why they are losing this war. Teddy then asked about the kid. Elena said he was a kid who lived on a ranch until his father passed away and announced him as Popeye. She then calls Popeye over and tells him he'll get sick if he keeps eating chocolate. Teddy then asks about the radio on him on whether or not it works. He also asks if Popeye wants to listen to some music, but Popeye states all they get is news. He runs off and Elena asks Teddy if he has kids. Teddy tells Elena he has a 2 year old son named Paul. They hear a helicopter flying. Elena explains that chopper has spent weeks flying around and it would only be a matter of time before they found them. Teddy looks into Alejandro's direction and Elena could tell he didn't like her husband very much. She tells explains how he wasn't always the way he was and what he lost. She also pointed out to Teddy that they're married.
Franklin[]
Franklin and Leon arrive at a place where Karvel is supposedly at and they discover Karvel's car fully pimped out, which meant he spent Avi's money and getting Avi's money back would prove near impossible. Franklin stresses out as he draws his pistol and prepares to enter the house while passing up some passed out guys. Leon reminds him of what happened to Lenny but Franklin was determined to get payback and Avi's money back. They find Karvel in a chair with a woman on top of him. He is drunk to no avail but recognizes Franklin and Leon. He pushes the woman off him and wobbles up while Franklin draws his sidearm. Karvel then passes out and collapses on the ground.
Gustavo[]
Pedro is in the kitchen snorting a line with Gustavo overlooking him. Pedro asks how long they had to hold out at the safehouse. Gustavo says till midnight. Lucia enters the kitchen and lays down a comic book in front of Pedro at the counter then walks off to clean her hands. Pedro, in a cocaine-riddled state, tells Gustavo they must keep an eye on her and even brings up an issue on killing spiders. Lucia re-enters the kitchen, pulls out some thread on a spool and threads a needle, and asks Gustavo if he noticed the poster in Enrique's house while Pedro is talking about what he's reading in the comic book. Lucia then sterilizes the wound on Gustavo's back as she prepares to stitch up the wound while contemplating the poster they found at Enrique's place. She get the first thread in and it stings Gustavo. Lucia frets knowing that hurt Gustavo but he tells her to continue. Lucia then grabs a baggie of cocaine and pours it on the wound which the numbs the pain for Gustavo. She then continues to stitch him up.
Franklin[]
Franklin and Leon meet Avi at his home and he is not happy with them bringing Karvel who is trapped in the trunk of his own car to his place. Franklin suggested it was an offering since it was his money that Karvel stole and makes another suggestion to strap a kevlar vest on him for his gunplay. A young woman approaches Avi and asks if they were still going to practice some tennis. He of course lies to her about adopting Franklin and Leon. She then heads back into the house. Avi then brings a shovel to Franklin and suggests taking Karvel to the Mojave Desert to off him and bury him deep.
Teddy[]
Teddy enters the kitchen area and sees the staff hard at work. He then asks how long it would take to 'cook' the coca leaf when it arrives from Juliaca, and how often shipments arrive. There is no answer. He hands her cash and she says 17 hours, but then 4 days to convert them to HCL (cocaine hydrochloride), but would need another girl or two to speed up the production. Popeye then signals Teddy to follow him. At Popeye's tent, Teddy checks out his radio while Popeye pulls out a baseball card while bad mouthing the Kansas City Royals and gives it to Teddy. Popeye then asks Teddy about his work in the CIA and if he has been to other contra camps. He then hears some of the contras mouthing off about how they will eat his monkey. Popeye then tells Teddy they always make that joke. Teddy asked Popeye about how big baseball was in his hometown, but when he asked about how his father died, Popeye got offended and barged off.
Franklin[]
Franklin and Leon are driving through the desert with Karvel in the trunk. Leon suggests throwing Karvel off a cliff and letting the wolves chow on him, but Franklin rejects the idea of leaving his body in the open and continues driving. They then hear Karvel waking up and banging on the trunk demanding to be let out but Franklin continues to drive down the road.
Gustavo[]
Lucia looks at the wound she stitched up and gauzed for Gustavo, stating he'll need antibiotics, otherwise it will get infected. Gustavo instead talks about his old gym and how he intends to buy it and renovate the place to his liking. They hear a gunshot outside and run out to see Pedro with a pistol in hand proclaiming he shot a rat. Gustavo tells him it was a possum. Lucia scorns Pedro about firing a weapon near a house full of drugs and Enrique's dead body inside the trunk, she also asked what would happen if someone called the cops. Lucia then asked El Oso to stash the dead animal in the back of Pedro's car with the corpse so they'll bury them both. She just stared at Pedro at walks away while Gustavo asks for a bag.
Franklin[]
Karvel continues begging to be let out as Franklin reaches a work zone. He turns up the music to drown out Karvel's pleas and banging. Even Leon is singing to the music help drown away Karvel's commotion. They then are let through and continue down the road. Soon enough they hear some banging on the back seat and see a crowbar puncturing the leather. Leon then takes the gun from Franklin and shoots the back seat. Instead, Karvel is able to rip up the back seat and claw his way out while grabbing Franklin. They pull over and Franklin and Leon jump out of the car. Karvel busts out through the trunk and makes a run for it. Leon fires the weapon and hits Karvel, causing him to tumble down a hill.
Teddy[]
Alejandro informs Teddy the coke is ready for transport and needs help loading up the vehicle. Teddy contemplates on better ways to acquire the ingredients whether dealing with Peruvians or Colombians since getting the product at the contra camp would be time consuming, and Alejandro would want to avoid dealing the Colombians. Teddy asks Alejandro for a moment while staring at some kind of device and concealing it in a cloth. He then approaches Popeye at his tent and show him the device. He later shows the device to Alejandro and Elena and explains he found it in a tree where he first saw Popeye. It was a firefly, an infrared transmitter that can be found by anyone equipped with a receiver, making it easy for anyone to find the contra camp. Elena stated she was foolish to trust, but Teddy saw through his ruse when he asked too many question and talked about being from Bocay. He also pointed out why a helicopter was buzzing around and why Popeye had a radio on him. Elena suggested using the transmitter far from the camp in order to draw out the helicopter and shoot it down. One of the contras informs Elena that he confessed to working for the FSLN. As Elena approaches the hut Popeye is held in, Teddy attempts to persuade her to turn him into a double agent and states he's only a kid, but Elena doesn't want to risk it and reminded Teddy he put the entire camp at risk and continues to the hut.
Lucia[]
Both Gustavo and Pedro are lying down resting and Lucia enters. She lied down next to Gustavo and asked if he ever seen dead bodies before. Gustavo named both Max and Enrique and another. He then asks Lucia the same question. She pauses and says no but Gustavo could see a lie from her. Pedro gets a page from his dad and informs them he needs to leave, but needed Gustavo's truck since he couldn't take a car with a dead body inside and demands Gustavo's keys. Lucia asks Gustavo for a moment with Pedro and El Oso vacates. Lucia then brings up how Gustavo was unconscious while Enriques was strangling her, and pointed up about how he just froze and stood there. She then pointed how she would be dead had Gustavo not gained conscience. She then tells Pedro to head home, change clothes, and be calm and cool with his father, and then state should he 'fuck this up' she would kill him. Lucia then calls for Gustavo and requests his pickup keys.
Franklin[]
Franklin and Leon are following Karvel's blood trail through the Mojave Desert and wonders how he's still alive. The blood trail dries up and they hesitantly search for any tracks Karvel may have made but soon find a fresh batch of blood down the trail. They then find Karvel lying next to a busted concrete stump and approach him. Franklin draws his weapon on Karvel as he begs for his life. Franklin lowers his gun and turns away while Leon take the gun and shoots Karvel dead.
Lucia[]
Lucia is sitting on the floor of the storefront church staring at a figurine of Jesus, thinking back about how she hid under her bed when her older sister, Rosa, asked her to stay hidden just moments before she was killed by a Sicario. Gustavo enters and asks her to get some sleep, but Lucia reminds Gustavo that she's his boss, but kids about it. Lucia then speaks to Gustavo about how he killed Enrique. She then asked Gustavo if he had siblings of his own. He doesn't answer. She hugs him, still reeling from nearly being killed. Pedro returns to inform Lucia and Gustavo about how another Sicario went to Enrique's place shortly after they killed him. With Ramiro believing Enrique robbed him and bolted with the cash, they can breathe easily. Lucia informs them it's time and exits the church.
Teddy[]
Teddy is loading up the jeep with duffel bags full of coke. Alejandro spoke to Teddy about how he wanted to let the kid live and spoke of repercussions. Teddy changes the subject and informs Alejandro they'll be changing their landing zone. A gunshot goes off and Teddy looks back. Elena leaves the hut Popeye was held in, and Teddy and Alejandro knew she had executed the boy. Teddy continues strapping the bags on and Alejandro tells Teddy he'll return to pick him up. Teddy then returns to where Popeyes tent was and released his pet monkey with Elena bearing witness. He informs Elena she will be getting another shipment in a few weeks time. She then hands Teddy a photo and requests him to give it to Alejandro and tell him 'Don't Forget!' It is an old family photo of a younger Alejandro with his wife Elena and their infant son.
Franklin[]
Franklin and Leon are at a garage working to sell Karvel's car, despite the ripped back seat and bullet holes. The mechanic asks if they really had an animal back there. They lied and said yes. The mechanic offered 23K. Franklin protests claiming he bought it brand new the day before with custom rims. Of course, the mechanic points out the upholstery damage in the trunk. Leon pulls Franklin aside and reminds him that he owes Avi more than 23K. Franklin then rolls in his Honda bike which he somehow managed to get back from the mugging and presents it to the mechanic, who reluctantly offers $800 for the bike. Franklin and Leon exit the auto shop with a bag full of cash and head their separate ways. Franklin is then at Avi's place where the Tennis instructor is naked in the pool. Avi points out to Franklin to invest in his own shovel, heavy duty garbage bags, gloves, rubbing alcohol, and an air freshener should he continue down this path while collecting his money. He calls for Muir, throws him the cash and tells him to set Franklin up with 3 more kilos. Instead Franklin rejects the kilos and informs Avi he's out. Avi states to Franklin that he lasted longer than he though he would, and that this game isn't for everyone. Franklin then exits the property with the gates closing behind him.
